Commander Joseph R. Newcomb, MSPA, PA-C, was commissioned in the United States Public Health Service (USPHS) in November 2004 after serving 12 years of combined service in the U.S. Army and the U.S. Marine Corps. CDR Newcomb earned a Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies from Mountain State University in Beckley, West Virginia. As a Physician Assistant (PA), he has served in isolated hardship assignments in rural Alaska, as a shipboard/aviation medical officer in the Caribbean, and as a flight surgeon in Germany and Iraq, and recently as the Chief of Concussion Care for Womack Army Medical Center at Ft. Bragg in North Carolina. He currently serves as Director, Aviation Medicine for the NOAA Aircraft Operations Center in Lakeland, Florida. His awards include the U.S. Army Meritorious Service Medal, the PHS Outstanding Service Medal, the Army and Coast Guard Commendation Medals, the PHS and Army Achievement Medals, and the U.S. Army Combat Service Identification Badge.
