Occupational Exposure to Bloodborne Pathogens: Exposure Control Plan (BBP ECP)

August 17, 2020

The BBP ECP educates the Small Boat Community on the hazards and risks associated with Bloodborne Pathogens (BBPs). The BBP ECP includes training, action/responsibilities, and record-keeping protocols. Small Boat Operators (SBOs) are required to complete BBP training every two years either in person (in conjunction with First Aid/CPR Training) or online at the Commerce Learning Center (CLC). Also included are Hepatitis B consent (and declination) forms. The BBP ECP was approved by RADM Silah on August 17, 2020.

The required training is available on CLC as well as other online resources like the Red Cross. Vendors that offer CPR / First Aid may be able to provide a BBP training as well, a separate certification card is needed.  The training needs to be renewed every two years. The CLC course is “Bloodborne PathogenAwareness 2.0” (25 minutes) meets the requirement for those with CLC access.

The plan will be incorporated in the next version of the Standards & Procedures Manual. The requirements have already been integrated into the ABSE / SBEX and Operator Authorization forms. The most current versions are located on Forms page of the SBP Website.

This policy should be incorporated as soon as possible and no later than 01 October 2020.
