Lieutenant Aras Zygas
LT Zygas has been serving in the role of Executive Officer of the NOAA Diving Center (NDC) since December 2018. LT Zygas uses his instructional, administrative, and technical expertise to facilitate dive training and field support missions at NDC. As a NOAA diver for more than seven years, he also serves as the Unit Diving Supervisor (UDS) for ~80 shipboard divers across the NOAA fleet and represents NOAA’s Office of Marine and Aviation Operations (OMAO) on the NOAA Diving Control and Safety Board as the Line Office Diving Officer.
LT Zygas has served on NOAA Ship Oscar Dyson out of Kodiak, AK, and NOAA Ship Henry Bigelow out of Woods Hole, MA. During his previous NOAA Corps shore assignment he was stationed at the Southeast Fisheries Science Center in Miami, FL where he coordinated logistics for fisheries oceanography studies in the Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean. LT Zygas earned his B.S. in General Engineering and M.S. in Environmental Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
