Rear Admiral (Lower Half) Amanda L. Goeller is the deputy director of the NOAA Commissioned Officer Corps and deputy assistant administrator for operations for NOAA’s Office of Marine and Aviation Operations.
Rear Adm. Goeller has more than 20 years of service in the NOAA Corps. Most recently, she served as the commanding officer of the NOAA Marine Operations Center-Atlantic with the responsibility of safety and operations of NOAA’s nine Atlantic-based research vessels and crew, oversight of shore side facilities management ranging from New Castle, New Hampshire to Gulfport, Mississippi, as well as onboarding three new facilities in Newport, Rhode Island, Charleston, South Carolina and Gulfport, Mississippi.
Prior to reporting to her shore command, Rear Adm. Goeller served as commanding officer of NOAA Ship Bell M. Shimada, a Fisheries Survey Vessel homeported in Newport, Oregon, and a vessel to which she is proudly a plankowner. Her sea assignments include a wide range of operational experience from the Atlantic to the Pacific. She has served ashore as chief of staff for NOAA Marine and Aviation Operations deputy director for operations, and positions within NOAA's Commissioned Personnel Center, Marine Operations, and NOAA Fisheries.
Rear Adm. Goeller holds a Bachelor's of Science degree in Marine Science with a minor in Mathematics from Eckerd College and a Master's of Science in Environmental Policy and Management with a concentration in Public Administration from American Military University. Believing in continual learning, growth, and improvement she is also a graduate of NOAA’s Leadership Competencies Development Program and Harvard Kennedy School’s Senior Executive Fellows Program.
