NOAA Fleet Week 2026!

As we prepare to enter field season for many NOAA research projects, we are celebrating NOAA Fleet Week. Aligning with the tradition of Fleet Weeks, during which the public can experience active military ships and aircraft, NOAA is offering virtual “behind the scenes” access to the NOAA fleet April 6-10 through social media content, web stories, video features and more. Join us and learn more about the platforms and people behind NOAA’s science, service, and stewardship mission.

Check back here for stories and follow us on our social media channels using #NOAAFleetWeek.

The NOAA Commissioned Officer Corps

The NOAA Commissioned Officer Corps (NOAA Corps) is one of the nation’s eight uniformed services. NOAA Corps officers are an integral part of NOAA, an agency of the U.S. Department of Commerce, and serve with the special trust and confidence of the President.

With approximately 330 officers and growing, the NOAA Corps supports nearly all of NOAA’s programs and missions. The combination of commissioned service and scientific expertise makes these officers uniquely capable of leading some of NOAA’s most important initiatives.

Uncrewed Systems Operations

Uncrewed aircraft and marine systems are playing a growing role in how NOAA collects data. Collectively known as uncrewed systems (UxS), they are expanding the collection and utilization of critical, high accuracy, and time-sensitive data and are enhancing the way NOAA meets its mission requirements in almost all of its mission areas.

To learn more about how we've been using uncrewed systems in collaboration with crewed vessels and planes to study our ocean and atmosphere, check out our uncrewed systems accomplishments from the last year.
