On a recent Friday afternoon in Yaquina Bay, Oregon, a loud boom drew the attention of NOAA personnel at the Marine Operations Center-Pacific pier. Thick smoke was spotted billowing from a nearby recreational vessel, the result of a fire on board.

Congratulations to BOTC 145, NOAA Corps' newest officers

The NOAA Corps gained 20 new officers on Apr. 3. The first NOAA Corps Basic Officer Training Class (BOTC) of 2025 graduated after spending 12 weeks learning skills needed to become leaders in one of the nation’s eight uniformed services.

NOAA Corps recognizes 102-year-old retired officer

On December 11, leaders from NOAA Commissioned Officer Corps paid tribute to a 102-year-old Scottsdale, Arizona, resident who has a special connection to NOAA and the NOAA Corps. 

During a surprise visit, NOAA Corps Director Rear Adm. Chad Cary, presented retired NOAA Corps Capt. Leonard (Sam) Baker with a meritorious service medal for his four decades of service to the nation with the NOAA Corps and its predecessors.
