Aviation Medicine

OMAO's Office of Health Services has overall responsibility and authority for the administration and delivery of high-quality health care services to NOAA Corps officers, wage marine employees, aircraft operations personnel, and other personnel embarked aboard NOAA vessels and aircraft. OMAO provides medical personnel and oversight for the Aircraft Operations Center (AOC).

Aviation resources, housed at AOC, are subject to worldwide deployment, often deploying under arduous and hazardous conditions rarely experienced within the civilian aviation community. The Director of Aviation Medicine (a.k.a.: Flight Surgeon) position is staffed by a U.S. Public Health Service commissioned officer who is specifically assigned to AOC and provides a wide range of clinical and occupational health services to the flight crews and other embarked personnel.
